Know Your Rights Workshops

The Center Orange County is pleased to announce the first in a series of Know Your Rights workshops for the transgender community in Orange County. This first workshop, Health Law 101, is in collaboration with Transgender Law Center.
Who: You! If you are transgender, MTF, FTM, gender queer, anywhere under the transgender umbrella or a cisgender ally, this workshop is for you. This workshop will also be given in both English and Spanish.
What: Health Law 101 is a patient advocacy workshop. Participants can expect to come away with a better understanding of what's out there for them healthcare-wise.
When: Saturday, August 9, 2008 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
How Much?: This workshop is FREE!
Where: Although this workshop is FREE, we are asking folks to RSVP. The exciting Orange County location will be given to you once you have RSVPed.
What's for Lunch?: Please join us for a FREE LUNCH following the workshop. This will be a great opportunity for folks to connect and socialize with other folks in the community. Please feel free to suggest food ideas when you RSVP.

Support Groups

BeingME -- BeingME is an Orange County based peer support group for MTFs and other male-born persons who are exploring their gender identity. This community member facilitated group provides social and emotional support as well as guidance on issues that are of concern to members of the transgender community and those who care about them. BeingME meets on the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at The Center OC. Click here to go to the Orange County Transgender Coalition website for more information.

OCFTM -- OCFTM is a support and social group for FTMs, transmen, masculine identified-female born persons, and those who care about them. Activities include rap sessions, networking, resource sharing, speakers, community events, gender-related films, and updates on current transgender community activities, politics, and information. Pioneras 911 -- Es una reunión para la comunidad gay y transgénero que desee aprender más de la ventajas y desventajas de ser o realizarse como Trasvesti, Transgénero o Transexual. Con talleres educativos sobre Enfermedades Venéras, VIH, Autoestima, Espiritualidad y otras. Reuniones cada segundo y cuarto Sábado del Mes e 6:00pm a 8:00pm. Pioneras 911 -- Pioneras 911 is a Spanish language meeting for the entire Latino transgender community. Those who want to learn about the advantages and disadvantages of living as transgender, transvestite, or transsexual are encouraged to attend. Group activities include educational workshops on self-esteem, STD and HIV/AIDS prevention, spirituality and more. Counseling -- The Center Orange County offers confidential counseling and emotional support to individuals, couples, and families.
