Diversity Training
The Center Orange County is proud to offer diversity trainings as part of its services
to the community. We understand the needs of Orange County's businesses and service
agencies and the challenges that come along with employing, working with, or providing
service to an ever diversifying community. In response to community requests, we
now offer a series of trainings to help you and your institution build capacity.
Let us help you and your institution be more inclusive of the LGBTQ community. Our
trainings are interactive and can be tailored to accommodate large or small groups.
Trainings we currently offer include:
LGBTQ 101 -- Learn about the LGBTQ community and
give yourself an opportunity to ask the questions you've always wanted to ask. Topics
include: what is LGBTQ?, the coming-out process, challenging stereotypes, gender
identity, and more.
LGBTQ 201 -- Deepen your understanding and further
your knowledge. This training is designed for those who already know the basics
and want to be better allies. Topics include: qualities of an ally, a focus on gender
identity, addressing the homophobia and transphobia in your environment, and more.
LGBTQ Healthcare -- Created with healthcare providers
in mind, this training examines the needs of the LGBTQ community within your patient
or client population. Topics include: LGBTQ basics, how and when to discuss orientation/gender
identity, avoiding stereotypes, and more.
LGBTQ Mental Healthcare -- Created with counselors
and therapists in mind, this training examines the needs of the LGBTQ community
within your patient or client population. Topics include: LGBTQ basics, how and
when to discuss orientation/gender identity, avoiding stereotypes, and more.
LGBTQ Youth -- With higher rates of suicide, teen
pregnancy, and drug use, LGBTQ youth deserve a special focus. Learn about the needs
of today's LGBTQ youth. Topics include: what is LGBTQ?, the coming-out process for
LGBTQ youth, gender identity and youth, and more.
Transgender 101 – Learn about the relationship
and difference between gender identity and sexual orientation. Find out how to make
your agency or business not just LGB friendly, but T friendly too. Topics include:
sexual orientation vs. gender identity, understanding transgender experiences, what
it means to be an ally, and more.
Cultural Competency Consultation -- Let us come
to your workplace or service delivery site to help you find the little changes you
can make to your physical space that will make it more LGBTQ friendly. We can work
with you on intake forms, waiting rooms, etc. The Cultural Competency Consultation
works best when coupled with one of the trainings described above.
